Are you ready to return to the cabin?

IFC Midnight
IFC Midnight announced today that the company is acquiring North American rights to Travis Z’s horror remake, "Cabin Fever." Travis Z’s film, with a screenplay by Eli Roth & Randy Pearlstein (based on a story by Roth), stars Gage Golightly, Matthew Daddario, Samuel Davis, Nadine Crocker, and Dustin Ingram. The film was produced by Evan Astrowsky, Christopher Lemole and Tim Zajaros, and was executive produced by Roth, Cassian Elwes, Jerry Fruchtman, Peter Fruchtman and Ike and Jaclyn Suri. IFC Midnight will release the film in 2016.

A reboot of Roth’s 2002 horror film of the same name, "Cabin Fever" follows a group of five college graduates who rent a cabin in the woods. Soon, all hell breaks loose, as the group falls victim to a flesh-eating virus that attracts the unwanted attention of the homicidal locals.

Travis Z said: “It was a great opportunity to recreate an iconic film for a new generation of horror fans. I am a die hard fan of horror films and the king of horror Eli Roth trusted me to re-imagine his film. I was not going to fail.”

The deal was negotiated with WME Global on behalf of the filmmakers.

88 Films Unearths 'Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh' on to Blu-ray

Originally entitled "Picking up the Pieces," and featuring special effects from the legendary Tom Savini ("Maniac"/ "Day of the Dead"), this first class mix of gore and guffaws makes its worldwide Blu-Ray debut from 88 Films.

Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh Blu-rayBloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh Blu-ray

UK Distributor 88 Films will be bringing the 1991 horror comedy, "Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh" to Blu-ray on October 5, 2015. The movie will be part of their "Slasher Classics Collection." The 88 Films Blu-ray will feature reversible cover art, pictured above.

In the same satirical spirit as "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers" (1988) or "Student Bodies" (1981), comes 1991's esoterically entertaining splatter send-up "Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh."

Proving that a madwoman can be far more threatening than a madman, "Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh" introduces us to a weapon-wielding femme-fatale who is dedicated to lopping off limbs and chalking up a high body count in the name of an ancient religious cult. What results is a plethora of slice and dice silliness and one of the most deranged, but darkly humored, hack 'em ups ever unleashed. Starring Veronica Hart, the erstwhile adult movie legend from such late night masterworks as "Amanda by Night" (1981), as a crazy killer with a shapely shape, and paying homage to everything from "Blood Feast" (1963) to "The Toolbox Murders" (1978), "Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh" proves once and for all that the female of the species is far deadlier than the male!

'Preacher' Ordered to Series by AMC

SHOW BASED ON POPULAR COMIC BOOK FRANCHISE DEVELOPED FOR TELEVISION

BY SETH ROGEN, EVAN GOLDBERG AND SHOWRUNNER SAM CATLIN OF “BREAKING BAD”

Preacher AMC

Back in the 90's I read "Preacher" and it was a great comic! I think horror fans will something to enjoy about the upcoming show, whether it is the oddball characters or the violence perpetrated by said characters. I feel better about the show knowing it will be on AMC, considering their track record of quality shows in the past several years.

AMC has announced it has ordered a series based on the twisted and popular ‘90s comic book franchise “Preacher,” created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. The Sony Pictures Television and AMC Studios co-production was developed for television by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg (“This Is the End,” “Superbad,” “Neighbors”) and showrunner Sam Catlin (“Breaking Bad”). Rogen & Goldberg will produce the series through their Point Grey banner, along with Neal Moritz’s Original Film. AMC has ordered 10 one-hour episodes, with an expected premiere date in mid-2016.

“Preacher” is the story of Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper, “Agent Carter”), a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Jesse, his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun, “This Is England”) embark on a journey to, literally, find God.

“Garth Ennis’ ‘Preacher’ is, above all, about great characters – something we look for in all of our series,” said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV. “The fact that it is also darkly funny, has some great supernatural elements, and takes us on an incredible adventure is just the icing on the cake. The incredible creative team behind this show – led by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Sam Catlin and Neal Moritz – made a pilot that completely blew us away, and we know the series will satisfy and surprise fans of the comics, and captivate fans of great TV everywhere.”

“We started reading the comic when it first came out in the ‘90s,” said Rogen & Goldberg. “In many ways Garth’s sense of drama and comedy and Steve Dillon’s visual aesthetic helped form our style, and the idea that we are actually bringing ‘Preacher’ to life is a dream come true. This is the craziest thing ever and we can’t wait to move forward and work our asses off to make it the best it can be.”

Sam Catlin said: “Couldn’t be more happy with Sony/AMC’s decision to bring Garth’s amazing ‘Preacher’ to television. Can’t wait to spend some quality time with vampires, psychopaths, rednecks and God.”

Other previously announced series regulars include Ian Colletti as Eugene Root aka Arseface, W. Earl Brown as Hugo Root and Lucy Griffiths as Emily. Rogen & Goldberg directed the pilot, which was written by Catlin.

Frank D'Angelo's 'Sicilian Vampire' to open Big Apple Film Festival

Loyalty And Trust Is Everything

Sicilian Vampire

There's always room for another vampire film. Here's another one for horror fans to sink their teeth in to.

"Sicilian Vampire," Frank D'Angelo's fourth feature film, has been selected as the opening film of this year's New York City 12th Annual Big Apple Film Festival taking place November 4-7, 2015.

Big Apple Film Festival has been named one of MovieMaker Magazine's '25 Festivals Worth The Entry Fee' and '25 Coolest Film Festivals'. "And we're ecstatic to have our film be chosen to open the festival," says Frank D'Angelo. "It's ironic that I started my first business selling apples and now here I am 30 years later producing and directing movies and showcasing it in the Big Apple."

"Sicilian Vampire" stars notable actors James Caan, Daryl Hannah, Paul Sorvino, Robert Loggia, Armand Assante, Robert Davi, Michael Paré, Eric Roberts, Daniel Baldwin, Tony Nardi, Frank D'Angelo, Art Hindle and Phil Esposito. Having just been completed and entered into a few film festivals, the film has also been selected to showcase in the 2015 AOF Festival XI in Monrovia California where it has been nominated for several categories including best director.

Written, directed and produced by Frank D'Angelo, "Sicilian Vampire" from In Your Ear Productions, is equal parts "Goodfellas" and "From Dusk till Dawn." It tells the story of reputed mobster Sonny Trafficante who was hoping to get away to the family hunting lodge for a little rest and relaxation and create some memories. Instead what he got was a night he will never forget. From there we're taken on a journey of action, suspense and drama that can only come from the mind of Frank D'Angelo.

Frank D'Angelo has written, produced, directed and acted in a total of four feature films in the last three years and is now in pre-production of his fifth film, "The Red Maple Leaf," which he plans to shoot in fall of 2015.

His other films include "Real Gangsters" (the story of the Lo Giacomo family, one of the most successful crime syndicates in New York City), which is currently in worldwide release on VOD. Another, "The Big Fat Stone" (a story of a homeless man who, simply by being at the right place at the right time, gets a chance at a new life), is now on VOD worldwide. And "No Deposit" (a story about a family man, who falls from grace through a series of downward spiraling events beyond his control), has been in theaters in Canada and USA and will be available on VOD in October 2015.

Frank D'Angelo is a modern renaissance man who excels at many things. He is a screen writer, director, actor, musician and Canadian talk show host. As a performer, he knew there was a big void in Canadian television for Canadians to promote their talents and so he created "The Being Frank Show," a late night talk/variety show which broadcasts nationally in Canada and is just about to start its 6th season. It has boasted guests and show business luminaries such as Al Pacino, Paul Newman, Tony Bennett, Graham Greene, Bill Fichtner, Kim Coates, Estella Warren, Bai Ling, Reggae Rapper Snow, Pavlo, Dan Hill, Ian Thomas, Murray McLauchlan,Missi Pyle, Kevin Hearn of The Barenaked Ladies and many, many more.

  • “Supergirl”: In the vast DC Comics Universe of super heroes, the rich mythology of Superman and the planet Krypton is perhaps the most famous and instantly recognizable. Enter “Supergirl”! Born on the doomed planet Krypton, the preteen Kara escaped at the same time as the infant Kal-El, but didn't arrive on Earth until many years later after being lost in the Phantom Zone. Now age 24, living in National City and working as an assistant for Catco Worldwide Media mogul Cat Grant, Kara has spent so many years trying to fit in that she forgot to ever stand out. All that changes when she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero she was always destined to be. With the help of Daily Planet photographer James Olsen, her foster sister Alex, and the research of the super-secret, off-the-grid Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO) and its head, Hank Henshaw, who are tasked with keeping the Earth safe from aliens, Kara takes to the skies to protect her world.
  • “Containment”: When a mysterious and deadly epidemic breaks out in Atlanta, a vast urban quarantine is quickly enforced, forcing those stuck on the inside to fight for their lives while local and federal officials desperately search for a cure in “Containment.” Torn apart from their loved ones, the survivors trapped within the cordon are fighting against not only fatal infection, but also isolation, fear and the disintegration of society around them. But as they begin to gain each other’s trust, hope remains, and on either side of the cordon unlikely heroes will rise.
  • “Lucifer”: The story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, Lucifer Morningstar has resigned his throne and retired to the City of Angels, where he owns an upscale piano bar called Lux. When a beautiful pop star is murdered, he feels something awaken deep within him for the first time in roughly 10 billion years. Is he actually capable of feelings for a human being? The very thought disturbs him. The murder attracts the attention of LAPD homicide detective Chloe Dancer, who finds herself both repulsed and fascinated by Lucifer. At the same time, God’s emissary, the angel Amenadiel, has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to Hell. Have You Been Naughty or Nice? Check out the Trailer for 'Krampus'

Better hope you're not on his naughty list

Krampus poster

Legendary Pictures’ "Krampus," a darkly festive tale of a yuletide ghoul, reveals an irreverently twisted side to the holiday.

When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers.

All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.

Charisma Carpenter, Jeremy London and Juliet Reeves Star in Jeremy Benson's 'Girl in Woods'

Girl in Woods is expected to premiere on the festival circuit soon

Girl in Woods poster

Yield Entertainment has released a new poster and stills for Jeremy Benson's "Girl in Woods."  In the latest thriller from the director of "Shutter" and "Live Animals," the titular girl must battle nature and her own demons for her survival and sanity in a deserted part of the Appalachian Mountains.

Girl in Woods stars Juliet Reeves ("Automaton Transfusion," "Zombies, Zombies, Zombies!"), Charisma Carpenter ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," "The Expendables"), Jeremy London ("Mallrats," "Party of Five") and Lee Perkins ("Foxcatcher," "KatieBird") and John Still ("Hustle and Flow," "Live Animals"), and introduces Shaun Elizabeth as "Little Grace."
Charisma Carpenter Girl in Woods
Synopsis:
The death of her fiancé (London) leaves Grace (Reeves) abandoned in a harsh mountain wilderness. Struggling against the elements and fighting off starvation, the fragile shell of her sanity begins to crack. Soon her struggle worsens when she notices a dark figure stalking her, watching her every step. Through memories of her mother (Carpenter) and father (Perkins), Grace finds a long-forgotten truth about herself. It is this secret, long hidden away, that will either lead her to safety or down a path of horror beyond anything she could comprehend.

On his latest film, Benson said, "Girl in Woods was a passion project for us. The idea of doing an origin story to what would be a slasher film interested me, and being able to wrap that inside of a psychological thriller seemed to add a level of storytelling that, as a horror fan, I felt would be welcomed. This film is the birth of an urban legend; one of a mysterious savage that is believed to be killing people in the mountains. I want audiences to be disturbed by what is happening to Grace, and at the end understand the legacy these events leave behind."

Pre-order the DVD edition of VIDEODROME

LONG LIVE THE NEW FLESH!

Combining the bio-horror elements of his earlier films whilst anticipating the technological themes of his later work, Videodrome exemplifies Cronenberg’s extraordinary talent for making both visceral and cerebral cinema.

Max Renn (James Woods) is looking for fresh new content for his TV channel when he happens across some illegal S&M-style broadcasts called ‘Videodrome’. Embroiling his girlfriend Nicki (Debbie Harry) in his search for the source, his journey begins to blur the lines between reality and fantasy as he works his way through sadomasochistic games, shady organisations and body transformations stunningly realised by the Oscar-winning makeup effects artist Rick Baker.

Hailed by his contemporaries John Carpenter (“he’s better than all of us combined”) and Martin Scorsese (“no one makes films like he does”) as a genius, Videodrome, was Cronenberg’s most mature work to date and still stands as one of his greatest.

SPECIAL EDITION CONTENTS:

Q: Is the U.S. Theatrical version a new transfer?
A: Unfortunately, we were not able to do a new transfer of the theatrical cut (which was provided by our partners at Universal). However, we did do additional color correction.

Q: Why is the International version a 4K transfer and not the Director’s Cut?
A: Our original intention was to do a new 4K scan on the director’s cut, so we started with elements that were available in the MGM vault. Unfortunately, we could not find all of the additional footage (film and audio) for the 96 minute Director’s Cut.
