Curse Of The Witching Tree - Film Review - 4 Digital Media

Curse of the Witching Tree DVD cover
A film that I have to recommend to my American cousins, this small budget British Horror thriller, directed by James Crow.

Yes you may compare it a little to the Conjuring, but not being British biased, I thought this was a really good debut, and better than the above mentioned film. A story of a family struggling to keep together in extraordinary circumstances, with the Dad seriously ill in hospital,in a coma to unknown reasons, a family moving into a cottage, closer to the hospital. Which they got dirt cheap, with the neighbours hinting they should move as the house is cursed. With a woman who murdered her children, then captured, and hung, and quartered, for being a Witch, with her body parts being buried in nine locations. We have a little chiller of a film, with no jump scares,to encourage fear, but good old fashioned creepy scenes, to unnerve rather than scare. With a director cleverly building up to a scare, rather than have it rammed down your throats. I cannot recommend this film enough, I have already reviewed it on my own blog.

With the acting in places excellent, to just average, still it is a genuinely creepy film, with an outstanding performance from Lucy Clarvis. As Emma Thorson, with Sarah Rose Denton playing her Mother fantastic also. If you can get hold of a copy, or stream on demand, please do so because I really enjoyed this film. Although not perfect, I would still easily give the film 3 stars out of 5 without doubt.
