Rebel Scum - The True Twisted Story of Southern Rage Rockers 'The Dirty Works' Comes to DVD and Digital in November

The true twisted story of southern rage rockers The Dirty Works
arrives on DVD and digital platforms on November 24th

Rebel Scum DVD cover

God and Man square off in the American Deep South in the controversial new rock documentary, Rebel Scum, coming to DVD and digital platforms on November 24th via Wild Eye Releasing.

Chronicling two years in the life of "psycho white trash punk band", The Dirty Works (Knoxville), this startling film expands the boundaries of traditional rock documentaries in a manner that is not always comfortable, but is always riveting. The multi-textured movie explores several themes, including mental illness, addiction, relationships, family dysfunction, and the struggle for artistic expression in the heart of America's Bible Belt.

Centered on front man Christopher Scum, Rebel Scum is, at its core, the story of one man's continued drive to create art in spite of the barriers imposed by society and his own self-destructive tendencies. Bouncing intermittently between the extremes of comedy and tragedy, the film reveals a seedy American underworld that is both fascinating and repulsive.

Aside from The Dirty Works, the film takes a look at other Knoxville-based artists like Disobedients, and The Cornbred Blues Band, as well as musicians/producers Carl Snow, and Vadim, and poet Rus Harper. Dropsonic from Atlanta, and Asheville-based Monsters of Japan, are also covered.

Production of Rebel Scum began two years ago while filming Dropsonic on tour. Director, Video Rahim, of Worldstorm Arts Lab, from Atlanta, caught an opening performance of The Dirty Works and thought there was a story to be told. Francis Percarpio, Producer and Owner of WorldStorm Arts Lab, later saw the footage and independently found a way to bring The Dirty Works story to film. In the ensuing years, the production staff have traveled back and forth to Knoxville and various other Southeastern cities with The Dirty Works, capturing their chaotic and bloody live performance on film for others to see.

Rebel Scum hit the festival circuit early this year and most recently received the Audience Choice award at the Y'Allywood Film Festival in September.

Complete list:
Official Selection - Y'Allywood Film Festival
Official Selection - Horrorvision Film Festival
Official Selection - South Texas Underground Film Festival
Winner - Audience Choice - Y'Allywood Film Festival
Official Selection - The Pollygrind Film Festival

Since the completion of the film, Christopher Scum was involved in a major car accident and over three quarters of his body was badly burned. His long-time girlfriend, Donna Renee Bailey, also featured prominently in the doc, did not survive the crash.

P.O.V - Film Review - Continuum Motion Pictures

If you could see what I see

POV poster

Released by: Continuum Motion Pictures
Run time: 1:24:59
Director: Richard Anthony Dunford
Starring: Tom Clear, Karl Kennedy-Williams, Tuula Costelloe, Lewis Saunderson, Jamie Langlands, Sarah Harkins, Chloe Oram, Judson Vaughan, Stephanie Hazel, Gil Sutherland

Synopsis:
After being dumped by his girlfriend Zack’s loose cannon of a big brother decides to throw him a house party in the abandoned retirement home he’s currently refurbishing. The building has a history. The previous owner believed the residents had become demons that were out to kill him. As the party gets into full swing Zack’s friends fall victim to the same curse.
If you could see what I see...

Karl Kennedy-Williams as Sam in P.O.V
"P.O.V" is as you probably have guessed, shot POV style. However in this horror film, the entire movie is from Zack's (Tom Clear) point of view. I am guessing that one of those Go Pro cameras were used to achieve this. It does seem to give what we see, a slightly unnatural appearance. Then again, we're not exactly used to watching films entirely from this perspective. The opening scene of "Halloween" is famous for its long POV shot. But it is very different when you are watching an entire film shot this way.

The film reminded me a little bit of "Night of the Demons" where the kids go to the house for a party and slowly become corrupted and taken over by demons. Zack's hellish nightmare begins with a quick image here and there, used effectively as mostly, double-takes. Personally, I thought the double-takes were great because they actually felt real. It was reminiscent of those odd moments where you think you spot something out of the corner of your eye, only to look and see nothing.

Tuula Costelloe as Lizzy in P.O.V
There were a few interesting characters in the film including Zack's brother Sam (Karl Kennedy-Williams) who is downright obnoxious at times and Lizzy (Tuula Costelloe) who starts to hang all over Zack the moment after she arrives. For a low budget indie horror film, it came off feeling like a better film than it should have been. Now, the low budget of the film is easy to see but still, you have to give credit where credit is due. The filmmakers seemed to have put the budget to good use. The actors in the film were pretty good for the most part. I did think that "P.O.V" took a bit long to get rolling. But once the action picks up, the pace speeds up and moves along nicely until toward the end where we learn what happened... or so we think.

Tiger House - DVD Review - Magnolia Pictures

Tiger House, an effective home invasion thriller

Tiger House DVD cover

Released by: Magnolia Pictures
Release Date: November 3, 2015
Production Year: 2015
Region Code: 1
Running Time: 1:22:47
Audio: English Dolby Digital 5.1
Video: NTSC Anamorphic Widescreen (2.35:1 Aspect Ratio)
Subtitles: English SDH, Spanish, French

THE FILM - [ 3.5 / 5 ]:

One night, Kelly (Kaya Scodelario, "The Maze Runner") sneaks into her boyfriend Mark's (Daniel Boyd) family home; but she is not the only one with designs on the house that evening. A gang lead by Shane (Dougray Scott, "Taken 3") and Callum (Ed Skrein, TV's "The Game of Thrones") has come to abduct Mark's father and force him to carry out a robbery on the bank that he manages. Kelly instantly becomes the one unknown element in the gang's meticulously planned heist. As the next 12 hours unfold, she must use every reserve of skill and courage to outwit and overpower her highly trained adversaries.

While the plot of the film may not break new ground, I found it to be an effective home invasion thriller. I thought Kaya Scodelario as our damsel in distress, did a great job in her role as Kelly. As you can see in the trailer, she has a few tricks up her sleeve and is far from helpless. Kaya Scodelario did a fine job carrying most of the film on her shoulders.

I don't want to say too much in regards to the story as to avoid spoilers. "Tiger House" was written by Simon Lewis and provided a number of tension-filled scenes. There are times when you feel a bit claustrophobic, which further adds to the suspense. The actors in the film all did a fine job in their respective roles. "Tiger House" is the first feature film directed by Thomas Daley and I would say he is off to a good start and I look forward to watching his next film.

Kaya Scodelario in Tiger House

AUDIO - [ 4 / 5 ]:

The "Tiger House" DVD offers an English Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track. There are also optional English SDH, Spanish and French subtitles. I thought the audio sounded great throughout the film. The sound was balanced and volume levels were consistent during the movie. The dialogue and sound effects were both very sharp. I did not notice any instances of hissing, pops or any other issues with the audio.

Ed Skrein in Tiger House

VIDEO - [ 4.5 / 5 ]:

"Tiger House" comes to DVD thanks to Magnolia Pictures via their Magnet Releasing label. The film is presented in NTSC Anamorphic Widescreen with a 2.35:1 Aspect Ratio. This DVD sports some outstanding video quality with strong colors and it really looks sharp in close up shots displaying a healthy amount of fine detail. Contrast and black levels both looked good as well. Skin tones had a natural appearance. I did not notice any problems with the video on this DVD.

Kaya Scodelario in Tiger House

SPECIAL FEATURES - [ 1.5 / 5 ]:

The Making of Tiger House (19:33) - This features interviews with members of the cast and crew including director Thomas Daley, writer Simon Lewis and stars Dougray Scott, Ed Skrein and Kaya Scodelario. Most of the discussion focuses on the characters, cast and the shooting location.

Trailer (1:42)

Also from Magnolia Home Entertainment - Trailers for "The Last Shift," "The Blood Lands," "Skin Trade" and "The Deadlands." Commercials for Chideo and AXStv follow after the trailers.

IN CONCLUSION:

An entertaining thriller with a good cast. The DVD from Magnolia Pictures was done quite well also. If you enjoy thrillers I think you will enjoy "Tiger House."

There is a link below for our UK readers to order the DVD from Amazon UK, that is already out. I don't know what the extras are on that release though. Sorry, no word at this time on a UK Blu-ray.

Entertainment One Partners With Hulu on Exclusive Streaming Deal for Supernatural Drama 'The Enfield Haunting'

Adapted From Guy Lyon Playfair’s book “This House is Haunted”

The Enfield Haunting

October 27, 2015 – Leading independent studio Entertainment One (eOne) announced today it secured a deal with Hulu for the exclusive streaming rights in the U.S. for "The Enfield Haunting," a three-part dramatization of the terrifying and bizarre real events that took place at an ordinary house in Enfield, London during the autumn of 1977. Produced by Eleven, the three-hour event mini-series will be available to stream on Hulu with either a commercial free or limited commercials subscription plan beginning October 27th. The deal was brokered by eOne Television International's Joey Sabella, Director of U.S. and Latin American Sales.

Adapted from Guy Lyon Playfair’s book “This House is Haunted,” "The Enfield Haunting" draws on extensive documentation, recordings and witness statements recorded at the time. To this day, the incident remains the most documented account of poltergeist activity in British history and the basis of horror films including the upcoming "The Conjuring 2." Sky Living in the UK originally commissioned the series which launched in May to a record audience, making it the channel's best-rated show. eOne also recently licensed the series to A&E in the U.S. and Shomi in Canada.

"The Enfield Haunting" stars Timothy Spall ("Harry Potter," "The King's Speech") as Maurice Grosse, a rookie paranormal researcher, BAFTA nominated actress Juliet Stevenson ("Emma," "Truly Madly Deeply," "The Village") as Maurice's wife Betty and award-winning actor Matthew Macfadyen ("Ripper Street," "Frost/Nixon," "Pride and Prejudice") as Guy Lyon Playfair, an experienced investigator who approaches the case with skepticism. After a recent personal tragedy, Maurice is drawn to the house on Green Street after disturbing reports of a desperate family terrorized by malevolent unseen forces. Working together to get to the heart of the supernatural happenings, Maurice and Guy will both have to confront their own pasts. Can they save this family from the hauntings and make peace with their own ghosts?

Written by Joshua St. Johnston ("Walking on Sunshine", "Sweeney Todd") and directed by Kristoffer Nyholm (“The Killing”), the miniseries was produced by Eleven and executive produced by Adrian Sturges ("The Disappearance of Alice Creed"), Jamie Campbell and Joel Wilson. Sky’s Cameron Roach also served as executive producer.

Tenderness of the Wolves - Blu-ray Review - Arrow Video

Ulli Lommel's "Tenderness of the Wolves" looks deliciously decadent

Tenderness of the Wolves Blu-ray cover

Released by: Arrow Video
Release Date: November 3, 2015 (US) / November 2, 2015 (UK)
Production Year: 1973
Region Code: A & B / 1 & 2 (DVD)
Running Time: 1:22:11
Audio: German LPCM Mono
Video: 1080p (1.78:1 Aspect Ratio)
Subtitles: English

THE FILM - [ 3.5 / 5 ]:

Fritz Haarmann, aka the Butcher of Hanover and the Vampire of Hanover, was a German serial killer responsible for the murders of two dozen boys and young men during the so-called ‘years of crisis’ between the wars. His case would partly inspire Fritz Lang’s M, and its central character portrayed by Peter Lorre, as well as this forgotten gem from 1973.

"Tenderness of the Wolves" treats the viewer to a few weeks in the company of a killer. Baby-faced and shaven-headed, in a manner that recalls both M and F.W. Murnau’s "Nosferatu," Haarmann is a fascinating, repulsive figure. Using his status as a police informant to procure his victims, he dismembers their bodies after death and sells the flesh to restaurants, dumping the remainder out of sight. This isn’t an easy film to watch, but it certainly gets under the skin…

Produced by Rainer Werner Fassbinder (who also supplies a shifty cameo), Tenderness of the Wolves provided two of his regular actors with a means of expanding their careers. Ulli Lommel, later responsible for the infamous video nasty "The Boogeyman," made his directorial debut, while Kurt Raab wrote the screenplay as well as delivering an astonishing performance as Haarmann.

This film is most definitely not for everyone. It has some strong subject matter and a fair bit of male frontal nudity, for those wondering. As director of photography Jürgen Jürges mentions in his interview included on this Blu-ray about the film being very simple and clear and focused due to its tiny budget, I think that is why the film works as well as it does and what I like about it. Sometimes it's not so much what Fritz says with his words, but what he says with his eyes and expressions. "Tenderness of the Wolves" was beautifully filmed by Jürgen Jürges, whether it is interior or exterior shots. The blood effects in the film had a realistic look to them and in one instance, I believe the first victim shown, the practical effect looked perfect with the blood pumping from the open wound.

AUDIO - [ 4 / 5 ]:

"Tenderness of the Wolves" comes with a German LPCM Mono audio track. Optional English subtitles are also included. I thought the audio track sounded excellent. The dialogue was crisp and clear. The score, sound effects and dialogue were well balanced throughout the film. I did not detect any problems with the audio in the form of hissing, pops or dropouts.

VIDEO - [ 4.5 / 5 ]:

"Tenderness of the Wolves" comes to Blu-ray thanks to Arrow Video in a dual Region A and B release. The film has received a brand new high definition transfer and is presented in 1080p with a 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio. First things first, the video quality is terrific. The film has a sort of drab look when it comes to colors, which perfectly fits for the time that the film takes place. I love the use of black and white in the film and the contrast on the Blu-ray makes the difference even more striking. Also, the subdued colors seem to stand out more in the film since they are often surrounded by so much black, white and gray whether it be the characters clothing or the dreary background. To me, it all looks great. I thought the black levels looked incredible as well and really stood out in our villains clothing among other things. Skin tones looked fine, even Fritz with his pale complexion. There was a fair amount of fine detail present and there was a thin layer of grain throughout with it only becoming mildly heavier in some of the darker scenes.

Tenderness of the Wolves - Stephen Thrower

SPECIAL FEATURES - [ 4.5 / 5 ]:

Introduction by director Ulli Lommel - You have the option when playing the film, to first watch a brief introduction by the director.

Audio Commentary - This track features director Ulli Lommel and moderator Uwe Huber. Mr. Lommel does a good job of both describing what is happening on the screen and providing behind the scenes information. Members of the cast and crew are discussed with a fair amount of time being spent on writer and star Kurt Raab and also producer and star Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The killer that this film is based upon is also discussed in this commentary. This was both informative and interesting, so if you enjoyed the film and would to learn more about those involved with the film or just the story itself, I would suggest listening to this track.

The Tender Wolf (25:05) - Director Ulli Lommel discusses making the film as well as how the movie was received by those that watched it. Mr. Lommel covers a range of topics from how the film came to be, filming locations and his other films like "The Boogey Man." Ulli Lommel provides a significant amount of information in this interview.

Photographing Fritz (24:24) - Director of photography Jürgen Jürges discusses working on "Tenderness of the Wolves" and the love-hate relationship of Kurt Raab and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. A good glimpse of the tension behind the scenes. Mr. Jürges speaks about the shooting locations including how they tried to avoid moving around in order to save time and money so they tried their best to find several locations in close proximity. (In German with English subtitles)

Haarmann's Victim Talks (16:07) - An interview with actor Rainer Will (Opfer) who discusses working with Kurt Raab, Ulli Lommel and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. He talks about working with Ulli Lommel again in a no budget film, "Wachtmeister Rahn." Mr. Will speaks fondly of  his experiences working with Ulli Lommel. He also talks about how later in his career he worked with Fassbinder on a number of films. (In German with English subtitles)

An Appreciation by Stephen Thrower (41:14) - Film historian Stephen Thrower discusses a number of areas regarding "Tenderness of the Wolves" including cast and crew members Ulli Lommel, Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Margit Carstensen. He also covers the relationship between the characters of Fritz and his boyfriend in the film as well as their real life counterparts. A very thorough interview that should answer most questions you may still have regarding the film. One odd thing of note is around the five minute mark, the section where you would tie a tie, has what seems to be green screen bleeding through a bit. It becomes more obvious later on but thankfully it doesn't go beyond that or ruin the interview.

Stills Gallery

Theatrical Trailer (3:05)

IN CONCLUSION:

Again, "Tenderness of the Wolves" is not a film for everyone and isn't even an acquired taste. The subject matter is sure to keep some from giving it a chance and of course, to each their own. This was my first time viewing the movie and I found it to be a good film. I really liked the look of the film. The Blu-ray is loaded with almost two hours of interviews plus other extras. The film looks amazing and sounds excellent as well. Whether you enjoy the film or not is up to you, but the Blu-ray is definitely another high quality release by Arrow Video.

Get Ready To Do The Time Warp Again!

Shivering with antici..........pation yet?

Rocky Horror 40th Anniversary

Hi my name is Garry W and i'm a Rockyholic! I have been a massive fan of The Rocky Horror Picture show since I was 8 years old, and still to this day it is my favourite movie of all-time! Well that's me introducing myself to you all, now onto some exciting news!

Rocky Horror 40th Anniversary

Back in September to celebrate the anniversary of everyone's favourite Transvestite from Transexual Transylvania and to celebrate the new UK tour of the original Rocky Horror Show. theatres around the UK and even some places in Europe were treated to a live screening of the show being performed live in London. The show was in aid of Amnesty International which is a charity that show creator Richard O'Brien strongly supports and featured guest appearances from Emma Bunton, Adrian Edmondson, Stephen Fry, Mel Giedroyc and Richard O'Brien himself as guest narrators. I went to the screening at the Odeon Cinema in Birmingham and we had so much fun, an absolutely sinsational and touch-a-touch-a-touching experience.

Rocky Horror 40th Anniversary

I know what you are thinking, "If this was back in September and it's now October, i've missed it so what are you rambling on about?", well you haven't missed it, here is the good news. On Halloween Night the same charity event show that we saw in the theater will be on your very own telly boxes! Oh yes Frankie Fans, Frank in glorious HD (and SD) in your very own living room! (Might wanna get the hoover out, he can be a bit picky). Here are the dates of the airings around the Halloween season, so if you see your country and channel listed watch it, you will not regret it.

  • BBC AMERICA: 29th October at 2am & 31st October at Midnight
  • SKY ARTS UK: 31st October at 9pm, 2nd November at 11.40pm and the 5th November at 9pm
  • SBS AUSTRALIA: 31st October at 8.30pm and 3rd November at 8.30pm
  • DTS/CANAL + SPAIN: 31st October at 11pm, 7th November at 01.30am, 22nd November at 1.30pm and 26th November at 7pm
  • YLE Finland: 31st October at 7.10pm, 21st November at 4.15pm, 29th November at 11pm and the 14th December at 9.55pm

Rocky Horror 40th Anniversary

Alongside this screening there is also an online campaign by some great fans to get this amazing show released onto DVD. No DVD plans have been announced and this great group of people have decided to start a campaign to give us Rocky fans what we really need, the stage show on DVD! "Why the dunkin' donuts wouldn't they release it?" I hear you cry (or that could be the voices in my head), well this is what we don't have a conclusive answer on although it is believed to be at the fault of 20th Century Fox. Possibly money issues or the fact that they have their own TV production of it coming up next year, hey it's FOX it could be anything!

Rocky Horror 40th Anniversary

To join the great people over at DontDreamItDVDIt all you have to do is go to their Facebook page, but also make sure to sign the petition so that the DVD release of this great show can be unleashed onto the world and hopefully make some good money for Amnesty International, the petition can be found here . So there you go, Frank is coming... ahem, to a TV screen near you very soon! But that's not all! This year is the 40th Anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show movie! The original classic starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meatloaf is 40 years old this year, and it doesn't look a day over 21 (that's what happens when you step up the reactor power input 3 more points), and to celebrate FOX are re-releasing the movie again onto BluRay in a special edition.
Rocky Horror 40th Anniversary
The "new" set includes the exact same disc as FOX's 35th Anniversary BluRay release (Yep the exact same disc, no blue tint in Brad's bedroom, no blue tint to the Time Warp flashback at the finale and that strange alternate audio track of Susan Sarandon's performance in Over At The Frankenstein Place). But hey you get Rubber Gloves and the soundtrack we Rocky fans already have 200 copies of so it's worth a double dip right? Seriously I personally think FOX could have put a bit more effort into this release and offer us something new or at least correct the mistakes from the previous release. But if you don't have the movie on Blu-Ray yet (and if you don't Frank will whip you) this is definitely a good introduction to Rocky on Blu-ray. The picture and audio is amazing on the release, it's just those couple of technical cock-ups that some fans have trouble getting past, myself included. But all in all, hey it's Rocky and there is always time to do The Time Warp again!

Rocky Horror 40th Anniversary

Another thing to keep an eye out for is the re-release of the original movie to cinemas this November! Check your local listings to see if it's showing near you because at a recent event at the Royal Albert Hall Patricia Quinn and Little Nell filmed a special Q&A with the fans (with a couple of surprises) that will air before the movie in the cinema, so keep an eye out for that!

Rocky Horror 40th Anniversary

So there we have it, a good year to be a Regular Frankie Fan huh? Well it would be even better if we could get the live show on DVD too but hey at least we have the TV broadcast ones to look forward to while we wait, hope and pray that the Rocky Horror Gods will shine down on us mere mortals and give us what we so desperately crave (this is the moment where you can shout any Audience Participation line of your choice). Get out there and buy the Bluray! If you already have the Bluray stay in and watch the live show this Halloween! And when you have done that get your cute stockinged self off to sign the petition! Now if you will excuse me I must return to the moon drenched shores of my beloved planet where I will do the Time Warp again! Happy Birthday Rocky!

Rocky Horror 40th Anniversary Tim Curry

Synopsis:
Dr. Bill Cortner (Jason Evers) is a successful surgeon who has just saved a patient pronounced dead in the emergency room—a patient of his father (Bruce Brighton)—with an unorthodox surgical method. After the younger Cortner and his beautiful fiancée Jan Compton (Virginia Leith) are involved in a fiery car accident that decapitates Jan, Cortner collects her severed head and rushes it to his home basement laboratory, where he revives it and manages to keep it alive in a liquid-filled tray.

Cortner now decides to commit murder to obtain an attractive new body to attach to his fiancée's head. As he hunts for a suitable specimen at a burlesque bar that night and on the street the next day, Jan begins to hatch a murderous plan. Filled with hatred for Cortner because he won't let her die, she communicates telepathically with a hideous mutant in the laboratory cell, telling it to kill the scientist.

Cthulhu Crush Productions Options Popular Young-Adult Series 'The Dark Numbers' to TV

Cthulhu Crush Productions has inked a deal for the top-selling young adult sci-fi book series "The Dark Numbers" for US TV development

The Dark Numbers poster

Cthulhu Crush Productions has optioned the top-selling young adult sci-fi book series "The Dark Numbers" from Flemish author Luc Descamps, for television development in the US. Described as Harry Potter meets Doctor Who and a hit with teens in Belgium and the Netherlands, the seven volume series follows Tim DeWilde and his discovery of The Dark Numbers, the secret properties on the back sides of numbers that allow users to create magical wonders. The books first became available to English speaking readers in 2013.

After discovering The Dark Numbers, Tim is enrolled in a secret school with others who share his gift for the Numbers. His classmates can use Dark Numbers to read minds, move objects, even create improbable machines. Tim's shocked to discover that not only can he do all of that, he also can do what no one else can do: use the Dark Numbers to open portals in time and space. This discovery launches him and his friends on adventures fraught with danger, wonder, mystery...along with the pressures of growing up.

Cthulhu Crush has enlisted Intellectual Property Group's Brian Lipson to rep the television property. Lipson has represented clients such as Stephen Ambrose (Band of Brothers), Rex Picket (Sideways), Nelson Johnson (Boardwalk Empire).

"I've been wanting to do this project for years," said Cthulhu Crush Productions CEO and Creative Partner Jody Wheeler. "It's a wonderful set-up that brings a sci-fi spin on classic fantasy themes. The books are fast moving tales of adventure, excitement, and time travel. We're building on that to tell as many fantastic stories as there are numbers."

Wheeler and his Cthulhu Crush Productions partner Steve Parker are the creative force behind such indie faves as Judas Kiss and The Dark Place, the latter of which Wheeler also wrote and directed. The first productions under their Cthulhu banner, WTF!, a comedy-horror feature, and Love, Colin, a coming of age tale, are finishing post for a 2016 debut.

The Dark Numbers will be Cthulhu Crush's first TV series.

"I can't sleep from the excitement," author Luc Descamps said. "Being picked up by an American production company with an aim to sharing my creation with a global audience has been a dream of mine for some time. With Cthulhu Crush and IPG behind the project, we've taken an important first step."

"The Dark Numbers has exciting young protagonists, fantastical, near magical, adventures, and a theme that is both familiar and original at the same time. I think audiences are going to love it," Wheeler added.

Caesar and Otto's Paranormal Halloween DVD cover

Released by: Wild Eye Releasing

Production Year: 2015
Region Code: 0
Running Time: 1:29:00
Audio: English Dolby Digital 2.0
Video: NTSC Anamorphic Widescreen
Subtitles: None

THE FILM - [ 3 / 5 ]:

Half brothers Caesar and Otto live out some of horror's most terrifying scenes when they agree to house sit a home filled with ghostly visions, levitating objects and possessions. This hilarious horror pays homage to classics "The Exorcist," "Amityville Horror," "Sinister," "Insidious" and more, and boasts an all-star genre cast including Tiffany Shepis, Felissa Rose, Brinke Stevens, Vernon Wells and Sean Whalen.

This was the first time I've seen a Caesar and Otto film and what a nice surprise this was for me. You can't help but get the feeling that the cast had a fun time while making this film. "Paranormal Halloween" was a fun low budget indie horror film that includes small roles for a number of genre veterans, which is an added bonus. As for the movie itself, it was a wacky, fun-filled adventure with the duo of Caesar and Otto. I enjoyed the homages and also that the movie poked fun at things like the monotonous viewing of security camera footage in the "Paranormal Activity" films. This is definitely one for fans that like a bit of horror with their comedy.

AUDIO - [ 3 / 5 ]:

"Caesar and Otto's Paranormal Halloween" features a Dolby Digital 2.0 audio track. The sound quality on the DVD was good and did an adequate job. I didn't really notice any problems with the audio at all during the feature. It was just average quality. The dialogue was fairly clear and easy to understand.

VIDEO - [ 3 / 5 ]:

"Caesar and Otto's Paranormal Halloween" haunts its way on to DVD thanks to Wild Eye Releasing. The film is presented in NTSC anamorphic widescreen. The video quality was good overall. There was a noticeable lack of detail in many scenes with the film having somewhat of a soft look to it. Colors looked good though with some standouts like bright orange pumpkins. The contrast appeared fine for the low budget indie film.

SPECIAL FEATURES - [ 5 / 5 ]:

Audio Commentary #1 - This track features writer, director and star Dave Campfield, Josephine Iannece (Gilda) and JamieLee Ackerman (Kyla). Dave Campfield carries most of the conversation for the track and does a great job keeping the conversation going. We're treated to information about what is happening on the screen and in between we hear about the cast, crew, filming locations and more.

Audio Commentary #2 - This track includes producer Rich Calderon, stars Paul Chomicki (Otto), Scott Aguilar (Fred), Samantha Barrios (Roberta), production assistant Tina Johnson and Nicole Spade (fan). This is also an informative track but more relaxed and less formal. A little bit of overlapping of information occurs but it's still a pretty fun commentary. Being a big 80's horror fan, I did get a laugh when someone sees Brinke Stevens playing the twins and asks, are they twins?

Secret Audio Commentary #3 - I found this Easter Egg on the Special Features Menu. This commentary features Avi Garg (Drew) who also provided some music for the film. A few phone interview tapes of Robert Beckler (Rookie Cop) are played as well. Compared to the previous two commentaries, this one isn't nearly as good. It was still a nice little surprise to find included on the DVD. Mr. Garg talks about his role in this film and different parts of the production. He also plays some music and prank phone calls on cast members.

Gag Reel (3:27)

Behind the Scenes with Shawn and Brendan (4:06) - A little behind the scenes bit, mostly talking to director Dave Campfield.

The Son of Piggyzilla Trilogy
  • Here you have the option to play "Son of Piggyzilla," "Son of Piggyzilla Strikes Back" and "Return of Son of Piggyzilla" (Total run time of all three shorts is 6 min 12 sec)with and without commentary. The commentary track features Dave Campfield and Josephine Iannece
Behind the Scenes Photo - Easter Egg you can access from the Son of Piggyzilla menu.

Ask Caesar & Otto Anything (4:57) - This is an Easter Egg you can access from the second Bonus Features menu. Here the duo answers questions from Facebook and one from the camera man.

Robert Z'Dar Tribute (5:13) - A brief but touching tribute.

On Set Podcast - The Forced Perspective Podcast 2014 (53 min) - Several members of the cast including Dave Campfield, Debbie Rochon, Catherine Corcoran and Josephine Iannece are interviewed.

Facebook Video (2:27) - A clip of Dave Campfield and JaimeLee Ackerman on the last day of of pick up shots in New York.

Original Crowdfunding Video (3:50) - Easter Egg found on the Main Menu.

Trailers - Includes trailers for "Deadly X-Mas," "The Disco Exorcist," "Murder University," "All Sainta Eve," "Frankenstein's Hungry Dead," "The Perfect House," "Sexina" and "They Will Outlive Us All."

Caesar's & Otto's Paranormal Halloween Trailer - Easter Egg accessible from the Trailers menu.

IN CONCLUSION:

"Caesar and Otto's Paranormal Halloween" is a fun comedy-horror and has me interested in both seeing their previous films as well as their next. While I found the DVD to have average audio and video quality, it really shined with the immense number of special features that were included. Talk about bang for your buck. This one is loaded.
